The tropics have always been popular as summer destinations; imagine yourself along with your friends enjoying a luau with coconut drinks in your hand. Now imagine that this luau is in your backyard. Here's how!

• Take a good look at your backyard and imagine how it would look like if it's in the Hawaiian Islands. You can use Tiki lamps, a bonfire, and scented candles to capture the Hawaiian mood. If you have access to tropical flowers or if you can rent mini palm trees, you can also add them for an authentic effect.

• Make sure that you and your guests will be wearing Hawaiian attire. Men should be wearing Hawaiian shirts and khaki pants. Women could wear bikinis (optional) and grass skirts.

• Be sure to have Hawaiian music playing in your stereo the whole night long. This will set the mood and give that distinct tropical aura.

• When your guests start arriving, make sure that you have leis in hand to welcome them. This alone will set the mood as your guests enter your backyard, and be welcomed to the tropics.

• Be adventurous and try to cook Hawaiian food. There are lots of menus that you can try. If your up for a challenge, you can even try roasting a pig in your own backyard, but this would need some help from your family members or friends.

1. If you had to describe Inviting Company designs in three words, what would they be?

Whimsical, Bold and Fun

2. What is your favorite party theme to design for?
Sarah-Drinks, and kind of invitation with drinks for a cocktail party etc.
Trisha-patterns and general borders because they are so versatile. My background is in textiles, so this is what I love to do.

3. What is the Inviting Company design team like in general? Where do you guys gather inspiration and how do you execute such awesome work?
Thanks so much for the compliment! Our creative team consists of 5 designers and 1production designer. We have a unique situation because we all work from home and several of us are in different states, different time zones, etc. We do all of our work through email and phone calls. However, Sarah and I do live in the same town and have meetings often to go over designs, etc. We all get together once a year for a designers retreat. We all have different strengths, watercolor, bold graphics, patterns, hand illustration, etc.

We gather our inspiration from blogs, magazines, trends shopping, our travels, etc.

4. Do you read blogs? What are your top three?

Yes, I read tons of blogs. I could never pick just 3!

5. You guys have teamed up with industry leaders like wedding and event planner Mindy Weiss. What is like working with someone so renowned?

Fabulous! She has been absolutely wonderful to work with a great fit for our line. She is super fun and has very creative ideas.

6. Your cocktail napkins are so cute and sassy! Where do all the cute quips come from?
They come from happy hour conversations with friends and on our work trips!

She works as the creative director from home for Inviting Company, which she and her partner Pam Hatcher started up 14 years ago in Little Rock.

Any designer knows the importance of pantone chips and we absolutely adore and rely on them at Inviting Company. Our designers are constantly looking through them in search of the perfect hue for our products. Do you know what else we love? Cookies!! So when Inviting Company came across this recipe for Pantone Cookies, we realized we had found the best of both worlds.

Designer Kim Neill over at Creative Star came up with this adorable (and delicious!) idea when she discovered some empty Pantone tins while browsing around an art supply store. She thought what better a way to fill the tins than with Pantone cookies, and any good designer knows the way to a clients heart is through their stomach. Well, we couldn’t agree with her more. You can check out Neill’s simple recipe for the cookies on her website.

Rose Bowl: TCU vs. Wisconsin

The No. 5 BCS ranked Wisconsin Badgers and the No. 3 BCS ranked TCU Horned Frogs, have a spot to play in the 97th Rose Bowl Game on Jan. 1, 2011, at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California. This marks only the second meeting of all time between Wisconsin and TCU; the last contest took place in 1970 season in which the game resulted in a tie, 14-14.

Wisconsin is making their sixth appearance in the Rose Bowl Game, and first since 2000. Wisconsin is 3-3 in its Rose Bowl Game appearances. The Badgers will be making its ninth consecutive bowl appearance and first BCS bowl game since the 2000 Rose Bowl Game.

TCU ended the season with a perfect reconrd, 12-0. They are making their first appearance in the Rose Bowl Game. They are the first team from the Mountain West Conference to ever play in the Rose Bowl Game. TCU has posted two consecutive undefeated regular seasons, will be making its sixth consecutive bowl appearance and second consecutive BCS bowl game.

Sugar Bowl: Arkansas vs. Ohio State

The Razorbacks will take on Ohio State in the 77th Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic on Jan. 4, 2011, in New Orleans, La. The University of Arkansas football team will make its first Bowl Championship Series (BCS) appearance in school history. While Ohio State is playing in its sixth consecutive BCS bowl and its ninth overall. However, Ohio State is 0-9 against SEC teams in bowl games.

The meeting between the Razorbacks and Buckeyes will be the first ever between the two programs. The Ohio State Buckeyes and Arkansas Razorbacks are both worthy opponents for this spot; both Ohio State and Arkansas have scored 40 or more points five times this season. This is one of the better bowl games on the schedule for this year, and the Razorbacks have a very good chance of pulling off an upset!

With the blink of an eye, 2010 will soon be over and we will be welcoming 2011. You can can make this New Year's Eve one for the history books – if you follow these five tips.

1. The Right Place: No one should be sitting at home alone on New Year's Eve. It’s important to have set plans that you can look forward to. After all, where you go and what you do will determine the next must have on our list.

2. The Right Outfit: Once you settle on a place, you will have to find something to wear. Most people put great thought and preparation into their outfits for this night, it’s a perfect opportunity to show off and dazzle with your new fashion. If you are going to a fancy club or lounge, males can never go wrong in a suit or blazer. If this is too much then just wear some fitted jeans and a really nice button up shirt. For females, nothing works better than a tiny black dress and some heels. However, you might want to explore using sequins. The good thing about sequins is that they make even a simple piece of apparel look trendy and elegant. To complement the outfit or otherwise, you could even use a small sequin clutch and even accessorize yourself with a sequined headband or clip. These simple fashion ideas can do wonders in helping you deck yourself up for the upcoming New Year’s party.

3. Date: Now that you have your party plans and the perfect outfit, all you need is a date. This part may be a bit more difficult. If you’re single, try to find someone who you know that you won’t have a problem having a fun with. Avoid anyone who could potentially cause drama and ruin your night. It’s New Year's Eve and you want to party! If you can’t find a fun date, just attend the party with close friends. There’s sure to be a lot of singles out and about no matter where you go. Take advantage of the opportunity to mingle like you mean it!

We simply couldn’t leave it off the list since so many people look forward to them going off at the strike of midnight. A great photo can go a long way- whether it's of your kids or the family pet. The perfect image can bring many smiles & cheer to the receiver.

While creating personal holiday photo cards should be an enjoyable endeavor, choosing a great and unique photo can be easier said than done. We've all known people who become quite anxious in deciding on the "perfect" picture. For example, should it be a funny or candid shot or should it be a posed portrait?

One of the most asked questions, do you first choose the card or the photo?

The answer... go with whatever works best for you in getting those creative juices going. Perhaps you've already chosen the picture and now you want to look for a card that suits it. Our AWPN-4 Yuletide Cheer photocard by simplyput was my favorite photocard of the season and I knew I would have to find a photo to go with it. My plan was to do a picture of just the boys but our family photo turned out good so I just decided to go with that. Beach pictures work so well with the blue, orange and chocolate color palette in this card. Our 3 year old was throwing sand at all of us and throwing a fit only seconds before this shot was taken, that's why he has a frown on his face. The rest of us were laughing at him! It is always an adventure trying to get family pictures with two young active boys! - Trisha

While looking for Christmas cards I was drawn to the animal print theme (1C-375 Zebra Ribbon). We used animal print with Austin's nursery and zebra print has always been one of my favorites. It's a fun print that you can put with almost anything! I really loved the zebra print with the green and red! We had Austin's pictures taken and they were all so cute I couldn't decide on just one so, I picked three different photos that showed off his personality! They turned out perfect! I am a HUGE Arkansas football fan. When Arkansas beat LSU and made it into the Sugar Bowl, I knew, I wanted to send out a Razorback themed holiday card (#1-2429 Hog Bulbs). I thought what better way to show our team spirit to friends and family during the Holiday season, or should I say Bowl Season! I went with a picture of my precious baby, Emma. What is your favorite thing about Inviting Company?

I love that Inviting Company is a one stop shop for all things paper. Not only do they keep up with the trends, but they also have a wide variety of paper goods, from baby showers & weddings to graduation parties or birthdays, they've got it all.

What is your favorite thing in your office and why?

itunes. I've got to have music going when I'm in design mode.

Where are you from? And where do you currently live?

I am from Huntsville, Alabama and currently live in Birmingham, Alabama. I didn't go far!

How would you describe your design style?

I would say my design style is somewhat classic with a bit of whimsy and modern mixed in. I love pattern and try to use it as much as I can.

What inspires your design?

Everything from interior design magazines to fashion.

What is your design process? To elaborate, In what way do you go about getting your ideas out and onto the computer?

When meeting with brides, the first thing I do is get a feel for who they are, what their style is and what their wedding day will be like. From there I move on to pen & paper sketching out ideas, playing with colors which all eventually find their way to the computer.

How did you begin your path in graphic design?

I was always into art when I was young and knew that I wanted to do something in that field. When deciding on a major in college, graphic design was something I could make a career out of, but also enjoy.

How did your interest in paper goods evolve?

I started designing invitations for family and friends and when my sister got married I designed her wedding stationery and knew this was the direction I wanted to go.

I love the Garden Twilight Folio Wedding Invitation, it feels romantic and vintage & you can't go wrong with the fun combination of turquoise and red.

Does the look and feel of your designs translate into your home decor or fashion style?

Yes, I think my design style is very me, in a sense. I love simple lines mixed with pattern and color.

Is there a design trend you're loving right now and why?

I am loving yellow and gray right now and the modern take on monograms and wedding logos.

What is your absolute favorite part about designing paper goods?

The reaction from brides they get their first look at their finished stationery! It's a wonderful feeling.

Ugly Sweater Holiday Party

Do you want to throw an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party? This is a fun way to get all of your friends together around the holiday season. It doesn't take much planning or money to throw this party, and it will be a fun night that you will talk about for years to come!

A fun way to insure you remember the night, is to set up a photo shoot area. Decorate it with ugly or tacky Christmas decorations. An easy way to do this is to hang up a red or green plastic tablecloth to a wall. Drape tinsel around it or you can add a small Christmas tree decorated in tacky ornaments. There are a lot of props you could add to your photo area. When guests arrive have them stand in front of your photo shoot area to get their picture. Hang the Polaroid pictures on the Christmas and have scraps of paper, pens and a box with a slit for guests to anonymously vote for the ugliest sweater, funniest sweater, most boring sweater, etc. at the party. Draw the names after dinner and have an "awards ceremony." Hand-made buttons with slogans such as "I bet my sweater is uglier than yours" and "What are you lookin' at?" make great prizes for the winners.

Dogs have always been known as “man’s best friend”, but recently they have taken on the role of a family member. More couples are opting to have children later in life and instead fulfilling their maternal instinct by bringing a dog into the home. Who can resist that wagging tail and constant excitement to see you. All worries and stresses of the day seem to disappear when your dog looks at you with pure love.

Today’s owners rightfully recognize their beloved pets as family members, deserving of the same sort of services that parents would demand for their children. Dogs are family, and dog parents want to make sure that their four-legged children have a full life enriched with all the deserving amenities.

Social calendars are filled with pup birthday parties, outfits for special occasions, play dates, and even scrapbooks to document every year, much like a school yearbook.

Winter Showers

Winter weddings are all the rage! More and more couples are choosing to pass on the outdoor garden and gazebos for the pristine beauty and sparkling brilliance of a frosty winter wedding. While there may be a chill in the air, romance warms the heart for wintertime wedding bells.

Wintertime bridal showers provide a cozy alternative to having one during the chaotic summer wedding season. In spite of the colder temperatures, winter makes the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable bridal shower, offering endless creative avenues.

A winter-themed bridal shower offers the chance to take advantage of a non-traditional color scheme. Start with a glittering color palette of white, silver and shades of blue. Decorate tables with shimmering cloth or paper to create an icy effect; use mirrors, crystal or glass vases, and beautiful ornaments to fill glass vases. People who have orange personalities are the most exciting of the bunch. They themselves are very spontaneous and love to be around people who are like them in that area. They love their freedom and do not like that to be tested or taken away from them. Orange personalities live in the moment, they are more focused on what is going on in their life at that current moment and do not like to plan ahead. They like to "go with the flow" and take each day one at a time. Orange personalities are the people who do things based on what they feel in their heart, rather than what they think in their head, and the do not like to be criticized or judged by others.

Although they are very exciting people to be around, orange personalities are very level-headed and able to keep themselves under control when in difficult situations. They like to play the middleman when there is a conflict. They are great under pressure, and are able to handle any kind of obstacles that may arise. They are excellent at solving problems, especially in the work place. People with orange personalities are the ones that are found working jobs that are not ordinary. They do not like to stick to the schedule. To be able to thrive, they must be in an environment that provides excitement on a daily basis. They hate to be bored. Hierarchies are not their thing, they really do not like to be put in the chain of command. They do not like to work on projects that will take a long time, and prefer to get something done quickly and move on to the next project.

What is your favorite thing about Inviting Company?

There are countless reasons why IC is such an amazing company to work with. Most importantly the women running it are good people with talent and respect for other designers. They know how to enjoy life and are energized by their passion for paper and entertaining. They are hard-working mothers who put as much into raising their families as growing their business which is probably why I felt such an instant connection.

What is your favorite thing in your office and why?
I could say that my inspiration board or the pictures I have pinned on the wall of my kids were my favorite things but truthfully – my favorite item is my pantone palette. That and my big cup of water. Color exporation and hydrating keep me very happy.

Where are you from? And where do you currently live?
From Augusta, Ga. Currently live in Atlanta. I love the southeast – it is rich in heritage and tradition.

How would you describe your design style?
My design style? Classic, clean, modern but traditional (moditional). I gravitate toward soft color palettes although the ladies at work are pushing me to go brighter – and spend a lot of time illustrating as I LOVE drawing animals and silhouettes.

What inspires your design?
I get most of my inspiration from my children and family. However, the September issue of Vogue always gets me going as does a book as good as “The Help” or a long hike in the woods. I am also inspired by successful women and for some reason always feel extra creative after a girl’s trip to New York.

What is your design process? To elaborate, In what way do you go about getting your ideas out and onto the computer?
First – I pour through magazines, magazines, magazines. I visit favorite shops or neighborhoods and spend alone time in bookstores.
Then I put together a book of clips, cut outs, fabric swatches, pictures, quotes, ideas
I carry the book around for about a month adding to it constantly
start drawing at my drawing table using inspiration and ideas from the book
draw, draw, draw (I throw away 60-70% of what I draw)
scan the illustrations that look like they might work
redraw in the computer
play with color
font/type exploration. Buying fonts is one of my favorite things to do!
throw it all together and cross my fingers...

How did you begin your path in graphic design?
I graduated from Portfolio Center in Atlanta, Ga in 1995 and worked as a designer in several firms for clients such as FedEx, Revlon, International Paper and The Blues Foundation. I have always been a geek about paper but really fell in love with stationery after a visit to Kate’s Paperie with my mom in NY. A lightbulb went off as I was into my second hour in the store and I realized this was the field for me.

How did your interest in paper goods evolve?
How long have you been in the design field? I’ve been designing for about 15 years. YIKES

What is your favorite of your designs that Inviting Company carries?
Kind of a strange question as my line if part of the mix but I love the Naughty Betty stuff. It is so fun and creative and perfect for girl’s nights!

Is there a design trend you're loving right now and why?
At the moment I am loving anything etsy. Etsy isn’t a style but definitely a trend where talent and creativity is celebrated through paper, paint, textiles and hundreds of materials most wouldn’t see beauty in until put in the hands of a risk-taker.

What is your absolute favorite part about designing paper goods?
Stationery is an industry for people who understand the value and importance of hand-written correspondence. What a great medium for communicating events as big as a wedding or birth of a child and as small as a simple thank you for a lovely dinner. Besides, designing for stationery and gift stores is fun! Much more exciting than designing sales sheets for corporate internal communications...

Last week Inviting Company was so excited to host a baby shower for one of our wonderful employees, Karla. As you can tell, she’s having a baby girl so naturally we decorated with a lot of PINK!

We used the invitation as inspiration to create the cake. A mom of an employee made the cake to match the invitation. She did an amazing job! I can honestly say it was one of my favorite cakes. Doesn't it look fabulous?

Another great touch was the adorable diaper cake. It was used as the table centerpiece, and a present for the mom-to-be. This is a fun gift for any mom, and allows you to show off your creative talent!

To stay with our pink color scheme, we used our pink and brown "Spots" tableware and "Oh Baby" foam cups. These paper products are not only fashionable and pink, but fantastic for the cleaning crew...no more dishes!

This is a great photo of the entire table setting. In this photo you can see the banner along the front of the table with cradles to match the cake and invitation. We made this with invitations, a hole punch and string, very simple and inexpensive.

The party was a success, lots of presents and a lot of CAKE! We hope you enjoyed these pictures and maybe even inspired your next party!

Think Pink

It’s that time of the year, everything around you is pink; companies, people, and organizations have united for one month to promote breast cancer awareness and raise money for treatment and research. Pink embodies the gentler qualities of red, symbolizing love and affection without passion. Women who prefer pink tend to be maternal. Pink desires protection and life. Pink people require affection and like to feel loved and secure. Pink people tend to be charming, gentle, and full of hope. When I see pink products dedicated to this determined effort to cure breast cancer, I have so much hope.

I am honored to say that Little Rock, Arkansas is the fourth largest Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in the world. It started with just 2,000 people and has increased over the years to more than 45,000. It will be held this Saturday, October 16th in downtown Little Rock. You may not be a runner, but however you choose to get involved, just know that anything you do will make a difference. This disease has affected so many women and is still killing far too many of our loved ones. So, how will you get involved?

The Importance of Thank You Notes!!!

You have planned the wedding, the honeymoon, building your new home together and a thousand other details regarding getting married and living happily every after. This is a busy time and there are a lot of things to do. It can be easy to get busy and let some things slip through the cracks. One thing to NEVER forget is sending out thank you cards for the wedding gifts you have received. Your promptness shows more appreciation and better manners, and it reassures guests that their gift was not lost or stolen. If you get gifts before the wedding, you should send immediate thank-you notes for them. This also makes it easier to remember.

It doesn't take long to express gratitude in a note and even the simplest note will go a long way in showing your thanks. Remember that wording does not need to be perfect. An imperfect note that shows heartfelt thanks will go much further than no note at all.

Do personalize your notes and make reference to the person as well as the gift.
Do remember that a gift should be acknowledged with the same courtesy and generous spirit in which it was given.
Do be enthusiastic, but don’t gush. Avoid saying a gift is the most beautiful thing you have ever seen unless you really mean it.
Don’t send form letters or cards with printed messages and just your signature; don’t use email or post a generic thank you on your wedding web site in lieu of a personal note.
Do promptly acknowledge the receipt of shipped gifts by sending a note right away or calling and following up with a written note in a day or two.

One Halloween theme we are loving is a murder mystery party. This party idea is interactive and requires guests to come dressed in character. Tip: Incorporate the usual details on the invite, but also include special instructions such as how to dress, if there is a theme and if your guests need to bring any props.

What is your favorite thing about inviting Company?

Inviting Co's enthusiasm about my line has been exciting from day one. From the moment I was initially approached by them to the time we actually got together, a full year had passed and they were just as enthusiastic if not more so to get on board. I'd rather work with people that actually enjoy the art than a company that wants it because it's just a 'hot commodity'!

What is your favorite thing in your office and why?

The bloody Mary bar next to my desk...for obvious reasons.

Where are you from and where do you currently live?

I am originally from the burbia of Chicago, and now, after a hiatus of some years living in the west and pacific northwest, am now an adopted southern gal living in Atlanta.

How would you describe your design style?

Um...piece meal?! It's continually evolving and nothing is sacred. I think my color palate has the most continuity. If it was a TV show I'm sure it would be described as 'eclectic'...which means just about anything these days!

What is your design process?

I am constantly writing...whether it's a short blurb on the back of a receipt, or a long meandering thought stream that may not make sense to anyone but me..that's where it starts. I keep an empty wine crate on my desk that collects all of those random words, and every few months I dump out the box and sift thru it trying to see if any of it strikes a chord or makes me laugh. These bits get shifted to a journal, where they are reworked to be more concise. I then shift to the photo part of the designs, finding poses and facial expressions that I think pair in a funny way with the prose. Then I bring in backgrounds and bits and pieces that I try to tie together in a way that supports the photo, and takes the reader off guard with the juxtaposition of the prose and art.

How did you begin your path in graphic design?

By accident? I've always painted and worked in inks and acrylics and watercolors. I've always written - journals, creative writing, poetry. It wasn't until I tried to bring the two together that a computer ever got involved, and even then it was just to print out the words. The way it's all put together now is a self taught process that someone who is actually a graphic designer would be horrified by I'm sure...

How did your interest in paper goods evolve?

When I initially introduced my canvases to the masses, I got overwhelming feedback from buyers that they also needed to be cards. The artwork is a natural for that media...and the ball started rolling from there. I absolutely love that Inviting Co. is doing the cocktail napkins - now everyone can stop asking me for them!

How long have you been in the design field?

My degree is actually in architecture..in which I lasted for about 5 years before I left to pursue a career in the art of hospitality. More specifically, waiting tables..which allowed me the freedom to renovate a couple houses, get a handle on the things that were important to me, and after I had kids, stay home with them during the day. So...long story short? My company turned 3 years old in July...so, 3 years is my final answer.

What is the favorite of your designs that Inviting Company carries?

I absolutely love Evil Thoughts. "Today I will think evil thoughts... and try not to say them out loud."

Does the look and feel of your designs translate into your home decor or fashion style?

In a way I would say yes. I use a flowing palate where everything is interchangeable. This is true in my home as well as in my wardrobe. I love stark and modern pieces paired with vintage in a way that is comfortable and unexpected. In my dream world this is the case anyway.... What do legos match? And sports equipment? And dog toys??

Is there a design trend you're loving right now and why?

Skinny jeans can bite me... for obvious reasons. Those saggy crotch harem pants bring us lots of amusement in the studio...for obvious reasons. I'm currently fascinated by the trend to return to white walls. huh.

What is your absolute favorite part about designing paper goods?

I can make people laugh and while they're choking they can use my napkin to cough their appetizer into and then have to go buy more. It makes the world go round....as long as they're laughing!

Charlotte's 1st Birthday!

Your baby’s 1st Birthday is monumental for several reasons: it’s a milestone, it’s sentimental and personal. There are several ways to add a fun and personal touch to their First Birthday party!

Charlotte’s 1st birthday party was everything she could have asked for; great friends, family, and lots of cake. Charlotte’s mother chose an Ashley Woodman invitation titled "Big Bro Little Sis" symbolizing Charlotte with her older brother. Hint: Use your personal invitation as the first page of a “I’m 1!” scrap book.

The tableware used was playful and colorful, but not too bright; it created a soft but fun setting for the Brunch, and still coordinated with the invitation and cake.

We added some personal touches by creating a pendant banner with Charlotte's name and used colors from the Heather Bailey tableware, banners really make a room feel festive. To add a little flair on the front doors we hung fall wreaths decorated with cut out paper flowers. Best part is, you can use it for all sorts of occasions; birthdays, baby showers, graduations, happy days, whatever. LOVE that!

Monograms are timeless, rich in history and add a classic touch to almost everything. Originally monograms were used as Royal Signatures, and seen as a reflection of one’s status. What is your favorite thing in your office and why?
Well my office is like going to a circus! Things flying all over the place! But my personal office located in the back of my company, is so peaceful and of course painted in Mindy Blue... I even have a couch for the grooms to take a nap on or for the father of the bride to faint on when he gets the bill.

Where are you from? And where do you currently live?
I'm from Los Angeles. I live around the corner from where I grew up.

How long have you been in the design field?

How would you describe your design style?
My design style is eclectic leaning towards a regency vintage glamorous Hollywood feeling.

What inspires your design?
Oh im inspired by just about everything! But most of my inspiration comes from vintage home decor magazines and flea markets that I search out every Sunday.

What is your design process? In what way do you go about getting your ideas out and onto the computer?
I'm a good listener...I listen first to what the clients dreams might be...then, I start researching and creating an inspiration board...it is a really wonderful way to add or delete a creative vision...my new obsession ...I go to home depot and take one of every paint chip they have then, I play with color inspiration.

How did you begin your path in graphic design?
I'm actually not a graphic designer but I call myself a visual designer...you see I try to draw but what is in my head doesn't translate to paper so I talk it through with my designer and then there it is...a creation :)

How did your interest in paper goods evolve?
I think it is a gene you are born with...when I was around 10 years old I would take white paper plates and start designing them for each member of the family. I would use crayons of course not knowing then that when they put anything hot on the plate the crayon would come off on the food! I love to go in stationery or paper houses and spend hours looking, feeling and creating..when Inviting Company asked me to join their family I was over the moon.

What is your absolute favorite part about designing paper goods?
Seeing the finished product! I love seeing the response from stores and Inviting Company fans!

Does the look and feel of your designs translate into your home decor or fashion style?
Yes, for sure especially the color combinations! It is important to keep current on color trends.

Is there a design trend you're loving right now and why?
I love mixing different textures of fabrics. Going back to simple and adding beautiful details like vintage dishes and monograms and ribbons

Invitations as Inspiration

Birthday parties for children are getting more elaborate and creative every day. Sometimes a child’s birthday party with an effortless theme just isn't enough. If you are one of those people who like to create kids' birthday parties that are special and unique, parties that your guests and children will remember forever, then here is an idea that should help get you on your way to a most memorable birthday party.

I thought this was a perfect example of invitations used as inspiration. In this case, the dump truck invitation by Inviting Company was used to inspire this creative party, and I wanted to share some of the pictures. This particular party was for a baby shower, but would be just as cute for a little boy's birthday. With the shower being construction themed, instead of using platters and trays to serve the food, toy dump trucks and hard hats were used. Instead of using a generic table cloth, blue prints were spread along the table to really make it a complete construction masterpiece...very creative.
If that’s still not enough decorating for your child’s birthday party, here are a few more ideas:

Get a few rolls of caution tape and decorate the party area. You can barricade off areas where the kids should and shouldn't play, designate an eating zone, play zone, etc., and show where guests shouldn't park with yellow diamond-shaped caution signs that say; "Caution, Men at Work", “No playing Zone”, etc…

Another excellent construction party idea is to rent or buy orange cones and a play traffic light. The cones can be used to sit around your yard or out by the mailbox to secure balloons to show where the party is and the traffic light will add special lighting in or outside the house.
If you’re on a budget and can’t rent or buy some of the decorations, well, here's a great opportunity to clear out your garage! Pull out ladders, saw horses, building materials, etc, which can all be used as construction party decorations.

And of course, the one thing all kids look forward to is the party favors. An excellent idea for favors is to use lunch boxes or plastic hard hats and fill them with small construction vehicles, stickers, tattoos, miniature tool sets, carpenter pencils, bubble gum tape, a ruler, a whistle, mini flash lights, etc.

Lastly, for the attending guests, you could stay with the theme and use caution tape for wrapping presents or Inviting Company’s "construction" wrapping paper and giant matching tote. Tip for the host: If you don’t have blue prints to put on the tables, the construction wrapping paper is a great alternative.

In 1996, Inviting Company was founded in Arkansas.

Arkansas Razorback Mascot, Fayetteville. Of all the colleges and universities in America, the University of Arkansas is the only one that has a razorback as its mascot. The athletic teams were originally called the cardinals. After a hard-fought victory over LSU in 1909, Coach Hugo Bezdek said the team played "like a wild band of Razorback hogs." The students loved it and the rest is history. The "hog call" is the only such cheer in the U.S. as well.

POM Incorporated of Russellville is the originator of metered parking. The company is descended from the inventor of the parking meter.

The over $9-million project connects 14 miles of trails on the Little Rock and North Little Rock sides of the Arkansas River. An Indian Summer

September’s warm weather gives us the perfect opportunity to phase out summer and usher in fall with an "Indian Summer Party". Fire up your grill one last time, and serve a rustic grill menu of rosemary potatoes, tomatoes, squash, breads, cheeses, and seasonal fruits; most of which can used as appetizers for your guests to snack on while you prepare the grill.

The best part is that you don't have to spend a lot of money on decorations or tableware Find inspiration in a single seasonal flower (such as sunflowers) and use various shades of yellow for your entire color scheme. Pumpkins and season veggies, such as squash and zucchini also provide great color and fun to your table. Add a few pops of bright colors; such as bright oranges and lime greens for a little bit of a summer effect. If you don't have vases for flowers, be creative and look around the house for unconventional alternatives such as clay flower pots or buckets. For serving dishes, use cutting boards, baskets or even hollowed out pumpkins! . Instead of a tablecloth, use butcher paper with Inviting Company's paper tableware. Using all paper products are great for cleaning, and no dishes!

Looking for a good "Indian Summer" dinner drink and don't want to be stuck behind the bar shaking cocktails, serve a punch. The recipe listed below is a wonderful punch that's filled with flavor and a little creativity. Again, if you don't have a punch bowl be creative and use something like an extra outdoor planter. Serving a pre-made punch is a perfect solution to easily serve large groups and still enjoy your party.

Fall into Navan Punch
The recipe is for a single cocktail but can easily be multiplied into larger punch that will be a warming hit at any fall festivity.

Ingredients:
1/2 oz Navan Natural Vanilla Liqueur
1 oz light spiced rum
1 oz apple juice
1/4 oz lemon juice
1 barspoon of freshly extracted ginger juice
1/4 oz maple syrup
2 dashes of Angostura Bitters
pomegranate seeds and grated nutmeg for garnish

Ingredients
3 Oz Vodka
4 Oz Pineapple Juice
2 Oz Cream of Coconut
1 Teaspoon Confectioners' sugar, or more if desired
1 Cup Crushed Ice
2 Slices Pineapple, speared with 2 maraschino cherries on toothpicks, for garnish

Steps
Combine the vodka, pineapple juice, cream of coconut, sugar, and ice in a blender.
Blend on high speed until frothy and well combined, about 30 seconds.
Pour into 2 Inviting Company cups pictured above

Easter Egg-stravaganza

Easter is such a wonderful time to celebrate new beginnings! Spring is in the air and vibrant colors are blossoming all around us. Since I can remember I have gathered with friends and family for a home cooked southern-style brunch, and of course, an Easter egg hunt! Invitation 1C-286 Easter Mix is perfect for this occasion. I love the fun and fresh colors and patterns. And it just so happens to illustrate my VERY favorite Easter pastime…DYING EASTER EGGS! I have been daydreaming of this for weeks now, surfing to the far ends of the web for new and creative ideas. My favorite techniques this year came from the ever-reliable Martha Stewart. Here are a few of my top picks…I can’t wait to try them out!

Silk Tie Easter Eggs

Tools and Materials:

small- to medium-size raw eggs
Glass or enamel pot
Silk ties, blouses, or boxers, cut into pieces large enough to cover an egg
White sheets (or pillowcases or old tablecloths), cut into pieces to cover silk-wrapped eggs
Twist ties
3 tablespoons of white vinegar
Warm water
Vegetable oil
Paper towels
Tongs or spoon

1. Cut silk into a square (or a piece) large enough to wrap around a raw egg.

2. Wrap a raw egg with a piece of silk, making sure the printed side of the material is facing the egg. Silk can still be used if it doesn't fit perfectly around egg.

3. Place the silk-wrapped egg in a piece of white sheet, pillowcase, or old tablecloth and secure tightly with a twist-tie.

4.Place the egg(s) in an enamel or glass pot. Fill pot with water to cover eggs completely. Then, add three tablespoons of white vinegar.

5. Bring water to a boil, turn heat down, and simmer for 20 minutes (longer if you plan on eating the eggs).

6. Remove eggs from water with tongs or spoon and let cool.

7. Remove silk from cooled egg.

8. For shiny eggs, wipe with vegetable oil after completing step 7.

(Silk goods such as ties, blouses, and boxers can be purchased at rummage sales or thrift stores. Silk can be reused on eggs.)

Lace Easter Eggs

Tools and Materials:

Eggs
Standard egg dye
Rubber bands
Inexpensive lace trimmings or scraps from a worn tablecloth or curtains
Scissors
Foam board fitted with flathead pins

1. Cut lace into strips long enough to wrap around eggs and still have extra to form a sash for holding.

2. Wrap eggs, securing lace with rubber bands. Dye eggs according to dye package instructions. Lift out, cut off rubber bands, and unwrap lace. Let dry on foam board fitted with flathead pins.

(Inexpensive lace trimmings can be found in fabric stores.)
